Overview
The Transtecno CM series is the core single-stage worm gearbox range in the Alu AC platform. It combines compact right-angle power transmission with a highly modular gearbox design, making it suitable for OEM machinery, conveyors, agriculture, packaging equipment and general industrial speed reduction.
The range covers 10 gearbox sizes from CM026 through to CM130. Smaller and mid-range units use die-cast aluminium housings for a lightweight, corrosion-resistant package, while the CM130 uses cast iron construction for heavier duty applications. The CM gearbox can be supplied as a standalone reducer or combined with AC electric motors to create a complete worm gearmotor package.
Key Features
The strength of the CM range is its modularity. A wide selection of input and output kits allows the gearbox to be configured around the mounting, shaft and motor arrangement required by the application. This includes IEC motor flange options, input shaft kits, hollow output shafts, single and double output shafts, output flanges and torque arm accessories.
CM gearboxes are permanently lubricated with long-life synthetic oil, viscosity grade 320. Under normal catalogue conditions, this allows the gearbox to be installed across mounting positions without scheduled oil changes, helping reduce maintenance requirements once the unit is in service.
For higher load applications, sizes CM090, CM110 and CM130 are supplied with double taper roller bearings on the worm shaft. This improves support for axial and radial loads where the driven machine places greater force on the gearbox.
Common Applications
CM worm gearboxes suit applications that need a compact right-angle drive package, moderate to high reduction, and simple integration with standard AC motors. They are commonly used on conveyors, food processing equipment, agricultural machinery, packaging systems, small mixers, indexing mechanisms and general materials handling equipment.
The worm gear arrangement can also provide useful holding behaviour at higher ratios, depending on the exact size, ratio and load. For applications where back-driving or holding torque matters, our team can help check whether the selected ratio and configuration are suitable or whether a brake motor should be considered.
Selection Considerations
Choosing the correct CM configuration starts with the required output speed and torque. The standard ratio range runs from 5:1 to 100:1. If the application needs a higher overall ratio, the related CMP pre-stage range or CMM double reduction range may be a better fit.
Motor choice should be confirmed against gearbox size, service factor and thermal limits. The catalogue includes combinations for three-phase and single-phase AC motors, with motor power options from 0.04 kW through to 7.5 kW depending on the selected gearbox and ratio.
It is also important to confirm mounting position, output shaft type, flange requirements and operating environment before quoting. Photos of an existing unit, nameplate details, output shaft dimensions and the required output speed are all helpful when matching a replacement gearbox.
