Overview
The KB Electronics KBPI Indexer controls are packaged in a NEMA 4X enclosure, ruggedly constructed of die-cast aluminium, and are designed specifically for cycling and indexing applications. Two models are offered, providing a choice of unidirectional or reversing operation: the KBPI-240D for unidirectional control, and the KBPI-240DR for reversing control with additional Reverse Run and Reverse Jog logic.
Both models can operate with either 115 or 230 VAC, and with 90 or 180 VDC motors, with the appropriate jumper settings required. The controls provide isolated logic functions for Stop, Jog and Run, and other functions such as cycle on demand can easily be obtained.
Key Features
Jumper J1 is used for DC current selection and automatically presets the IR Compensation and Current Limit for safe operation across various motors. Standard features include built-in armature fusing and an LED indicator array for “Power On,” “Stop” and “Overload.” The KBPI-240DR additionally contains logic inputs for “Reverse Run” and “Reverse Jog.”
The controls contain trimpots that can be used to readjust Minimum and Maximum speed, Current Limit and IR Compensation. The front panel contains a built-in 5K ohm speed potentiometer and a Run, Jog/Stop switch. A detailed instruction and user manual is included with each control.
Indexing Performance
The KBPI is engineered for total indexing performance, with a fixed acceleration ramp bringing the motor up to its base rated speed, followed by controlled deceleration using dynamic braking to bring the motor to a stop within a defined time window. This profile makes the KBPI well suited to applications where consistent, repeatable positioning cycles are required.
Common Applications
The KBPI Series is used across applications requiring precise indexing and cycling control, including positioning machinery, conveyors and feeders using cycle-on-demand wiring, and machine tools requiring forward and reverse jog functions. The NEMA 4X / IP 65 enclosure also makes it suitable for washdown or harsher industrial environments.
Selection Considerations
Selecting between the KBPI-240D and KBPI-240DR depends on whether the application requires reversing operation — the KBPI-240DR adds Forward Run, Forward Jog, Reverse Run and Reverse Jog logic in addition to Stop. Both models support 115 or 230 VAC input and 90 or 180 VDC motors via jumper selection, so the available supply voltage and motor armature voltage should be confirmed before specifying jumper settings.
